Wednesday June 18, 07:33 pm, Las Palmas

We came out of the water today. Process started around 9:00 am and was completed at 3:00 pm.
Not many people can say they saw a HUGE ship lifted out of the water, put on oversize roller skates and drug down the road by 4 large tractors, but Peggy and I did just that. Pictures today will be a short shot of that process and pictures we took of the underside of the ship out of the water.

Soon as we left the ship to go dockside, we noticed the distinct smell of dead fish and we have been here 3 days and never smelled that odor before. But stepping out on the scaffolding to go down, we saw why, total underside of ship covered in barnacles and my understanding is barnacles are living (now dead) sea creatures and now the smell begins. In the next few days, sandblasting and painting will begin, the propellers will be removed and refurbished, new shaft bearings and seals will be installed if necessary, then we will go back in the water for the remaining weeks here.

After supper, we got a tour of the bridge with the Second Mate, who is in charge of the ship while in dry dock. No captain is required since we are in port, so the Second Mate is in charge. His name is Larry from New Zealand and is retired military who is donating his services for this trip. He will go home for his anniversary and will not be back.

Continued working at pulling internet cables in the overhead and have 2 new Mercy Ship volunteers from California. They are husband and wife who retired from Verizon after 30 years and they are a God send for pulling cables. She is so tiny, she was able to crawl above the ceiling and get to spaces we could never reach. Peggy had a good day. She was able to do our laundry and let her back rested, both were so needed.

We continue to meet so many people with individual "God" stories of how they have come to serve here. I met a young man who is an electrician who had come for a 3 month service date and he is now approaching his 3rd year. He told us he is leaving in September and probably will not come back,,,,hmmmm,,,I know an electrician,,,,who knows?

Can't wait for the week-end,,,,which is something I never thought I would say after retiring but we are both needing this weekend to enjoy the sights.

Enjoy our pictures and I probably won't label them all, but if you want to know what something is, just email me or comment on them on Facebook.

Love
Ken and Peggy
